AstraZeneca is one of the world’s largest healthcare providers, and it is the largest pharmaceutical company in the world. Its goal is to bring more than $1 billion to patients in a single year. By 2025, it will be responsible for more than $6 billion in healthcare costs.
For many years, AstraZeneca has been a leader in the discovery, development, manufacture and marketing of drugs. The company, headquartered in Cambridge, Mass., was the first to apply for a patent for a drug to treat high blood pressure, and it has been an important player in the discovery and development of many other drugs. AstraZeneca also developed and marketed a number of its own drugs. Today, its product portfolio includes more than a dozen drugs, including three heart medications (Zocor), one cancer drug (Lanoxin), one antacid (Sustanon), and one diabetes drug (Abeladil).
AstraZeneca has been involved in a number of high profile drug litigation cases, as well as for the drug industry. In 2004, it brought a lawsuit against Pfizer for allegedly conspiring with a company called AstraZeneca to market a drug called Nexium, which is one of the most commonly prescribed antiretrovirals and antiparasitics in the world. AstraZeneca has also been involved in a number of drug litigation cases, including a multidistrict litigation (MDL) case in which it sought to prevent the court from ordering a drug from a company called Pfizer that had agreed to sell drugs to physicians. Pfizer is now the lead defendant in this litigation.
In the past, AstraZeneca has been involved in a number of acquisitions, including the acquisition of a biotechnology company called Merck & Co. and a pharmaceutical company called Watson Laboratories. AstraZeneca also recently acquired the drug company AstraZeneca PLC, which in turn is now the owner of another drug, Prilosec. In addition, AstraZeneca has recently acquired a company called Teva Pharmaceuticals, which in turn is the owner of another drug company, Watson Laboratories.
In order to maintain its status as a leader in the discovery and development of many drug candidates, AstraZeneca has been involved in the recent trial and success of its own blockbuster drug Prilosec. It has been on the market since its patent was set to expire, and AstraZeneca has been able to bring its own successful drug discovery and development programs to the market.
As a pharmaceutical company, AstraZeneca has been a major player in the discovery, development, manufacturing and marketing of numerous drugs. AstraZeneca is the parent company of Eli Lilly and Company, which was founded in 1885 by Charles S. Gilmaz, a French-American physician who was physician-scientist. By 2003, AstraZeneca was the largest drug manufacturer in the world and the largest pharmaceutical company in the world.
